Little Botanists

This activity is designed to arouse the children's curiosity for biology.

The activity started with a short presentation and explanation of plant physiology and subsequent use of this terminology to build a crossword puzzle with prizes for the correct answers. Obviously the motivation to give correct answers, typical of these age cohorts as a need for affirmation, created the suitable environment for learning.

After a first moment of creation and motivation for botany the children observe some floral specimens and the crossword puzzle words with the help of dark-field microscopes at various magnifications. The fascination with novelty and technology was evident throughout the activity, especially when they understood how a magnifying glass works.
